Good books for recovering drug addicts…not to help just a good book?

March 29th, 2010 | by admin |

nothing that has to due with drugs but maybe like a encouraging book or something…thanks

"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom is about a man who visits his old college professor who is dying (maybe of cancer). the man cant understand how his prof is still upbeat and happy, knowing that he is dying, and over the course of many tuesdays comes to learn why. Not many books affect me on a personal level, but this one did. This is all about hope.

I wish you the best in your recovery.

Alcoholics Anonymous. Just substitute the word drug for alcohol.

    "Dreamland" by Sarah Dessen.
Caitlin has a hard family life. Her sister Cass disappeared and her family is falling apart. One night she notices Rogerson Biscoe, and everything changes. Caitlin knows Rogerson is a drug dealer, but he makes her forget her problems.

Caitlin gives up her friends for Rogerson because he gets mad when she’s with them. She starts using drugs with his friends, and he begins beating her. They have sex, and after that she is afraid to leave him, although in the back of her mind she knows things aren’t right.

One day Caitlin’s friend convinces her to go out for the day with her. Caitlin tries to call Rogerson so he won’t be mad, but she can’t get through. When she gets home he is waiting and beats her. A neighbor calls the police and he is arrested. Caitlin’s family takes her to a mental hospital to help her get over the trauma and to get her off the drugs.

Sarah’s words are very powerful and draw you in so that you cannot stop reading for hours. I’ve read all of her books and while I was reading "Dreamland" (under $10.00 at Barns&Noble) i read it for 3hours straight becuase I was so into it!

If you do get it and you arent interested right away… wait two chapters. I promise you this is one of her better books!
