What are the top 3 reasons why you wouldn’t fill your medication prescription?

February 1st, 2010 | by admin |

First off–full disclosure. I work for a pharmaceutical company and I thought this might be an interesting forum to pose a question. I was wondering if any of you have received a prescription and did not fill it. If so, was it because of cost of copay, side effect profile or maybe just a wait and see situation to see if you actually needed the script. Thank you for sharing and please do not mention any specific drug brands.

I can only think of two off hand.
Not enough money, or you don’t think you need it anymore.
Oh yeah, number three, if you’re just too lazy to get up and go get it.

    1.The pharmisits are a disgrace and rude.
    2.You have no support at home to take the meds.
    3.You think you’ll been fine w/out your meds.

    Hi,I am a medical assistant/ phlebotomist. The most common reason i have heard is wight gain. Women especially freak out when they learn that a med may cause them to put on a few pounds. Even if the meds are nessesary for their well being.

    Fortunately my husband and I have health insurance with prescription coverage. When he dies I will lose that insurance because the cost would be prohibitive. I have 8 prescription medications that I take on a regular basis. I know that I will not be able to afford most of them without insurance. It will become a choice of shelter and food vs. medicine. Since I need a roof over my head and food on the table I’ll probably have to go without most, if not all, of my prescriptions. I can deal with any side effects and know the importance of taking medicine as prescribed.

    1. The fact that many medications that are prescribed
    have no generic

    2. High co-pay

    ~~~~it all boils down to Money!!!!
    I can’t afford to be sick but then again, I cannot afford to die either.
