I heard this live version with this bass solo the last time when I was 16 years old – 21 years ago! And I still remember it.

If you write something that sounds close-but-not-quite-a-copy… you might be able to get away with “influence”… but lift a bass riff and base your song around it – it’s a copyright offence.

I can see why there …
I can see why there was a suit involved with the music for both I Want a New Drug, and Ghostbusters theme by Ray Parker Jr. However the context of the songs were different where Huey Lewis’ target demographic was for an older audiance and Ray Parker’s was designed for everyone. They’re both good songs and they both deserve praise. 5 stars for both of them but i can now see why Huey Lewis sued for the music used in the Ghostbusters song….
