Prescription pill addiction is not what first comes to mind when many people think of drug addiction; they tend to think more of addictions to alcohol or illegal drugs. Most people do not think about the possibility of an addiction to a prescription drug; however, prescription pill addiction is becoming more and more common in the United States.

Believe it or not, illegal drug usage among teenagers is actually on the decline, but on the negative side, prescription pill addiction is on the rise among out teenagers today. Since this is becoming a growing problem it is important that people become more aware of this type of addiction so they can spot it in friends or family members.

In some cases people end up being addicted to prescription drugs unknowingly as their body becomes more and more dependent on the drug. On the other hand, some teenagers and even adults actually seek out prescription drugs because of the great feelings they get when they take them. In fact, there is actually quite a market for prescription pills on the street, with pills like Vicodin selling for up to $10 for one pill, or oxycodone for $20-$50/pill.

Well so do I but …
Well so do I but think of the consequnences. Theorectically we should allow the tobacco industry to advertise on TV because they are just “giving us information”. But we don’t, because more people would be dead. We need to ban big pharma from tv for the same reason.

    it’s information. …
it’s information. put on your thinking cap and analyze it. i have stopped taking pharmaceuticals, don’t even use acetylsalicylic acid or acetaminophen, won’t help to line those pockets to damage my health. i use my noggin, use teas and other natural earth-provided remedies, often growing or picking myself.

    Those Ads are …
Those Ads are nothing but bullshit. People are now asking for medication for the side effects of their medication. Less people would be sick and dead today, if the pharmacuetical industry put saving lives above their profits.

    actually i look at …
actually i look at those ads as a factor in corpoate transparency. what i find amusing is the disclaimers about damages caused by the drugs being advertised. bring it on; information even if you have to bring your salt shaker, is vastly preferable to none.

    many natural …
many natural products could replace pharmaceutical drugs, but they would have too much to lose….
Even things like pot could and many others but profit is much more important than using natural products or people’s health.

    They should outlaw …
They should outlaw prescription drug TV ads. I mean if it was really a drug that is important, it wouldn’t need any commercials. They did it for cigarrettes. And it’s illegal in all of Europe.

    Lazy parents. Hey …
Lazy parents. Hey let’s have some kids and then hand them over to some DA at the daycare center to raise while I go to work to pay for our car payments, huge house, and annual trip to Disney. All kids want is love and attention. For some parents it’s easier to give them drugs. Sad.

    mentioned to the …
mentioned to the public?? why do they continue to sell and even recommend it to us. when the greatest minds in history technically had ADD or ADHD. including einstein, thomas jefferson, divinci, newton etc…did you know Ritalin is in the same drug class as heroine and cocaine? they dont give a about your health, they just care about there pockets and there bank accounts. fact is marijuana would help more then 90% of the bull stuff they claim works. always trust nature over man.

    heres a stat for u, …
heres a stat for u, EVERY single school shooting over the last 40 years has been done by a kid on ritalin(or drug of that nature). the drug perminatly alters a persons mind, constant hallucinations, unable to distinguish fact from fiction. one kid said he woke up in the morning was tired(side affect), and decided he would go back to sleep and go to his 3rd slot. next thing he remembers is being behind bars and having the cops tell him he went to his 3rd slot with a shotgun. why hasnt this been..

i’m not sure who ‘proved’ this “INCREASE” you speak of, but it certainly is true that after direct-to-consumer marketing was allowed, the number of prescriptions and people going to doctors went up. this isn’t necessarily inherently bad–you have to think some of these people do need to know about new treatments for diseases that affect them/family

    There’s no reason …
There’s no reason to get testy there prokopton. You might want to cal lme a dumbass but look around you. Your fellow citizens are blubberbutts who take drugs to help their self-induced chronic disease states. You have diabetes? Guess what…you just lost nine years of life. Drugs don’t keep people with diseases from dying. They allow them to live longer. Look at what statins did to the mortality rate of cardiovascular diseases. Stick to the facts and quit the namecalling please.

    @haufbrau : How …
@haufbrau : How many people died of heart disease were on drugs? How many died of cancer were on drugs or had chemo? How many people died on diabetes were on drugs? And on and on…”Oh no, our drugs didn’t kill those people. Their disease did.” Hey dumbass, your drugs were supposed to cure or prevent those people from dying. They died while they were on your drugs.
